More than 1,000 Aloha Stadium Events Now Available Online Through Stadium Stars Digital Archive
‘AIEA, Hawaiʻi — More than 1,000 videos from Aloha Stadium’s Stadium Stars collection are now available to stream online, marking a major milestone in the ongoing effort to preserve and share the stadium’s history. Since 1991, Stadium Stars has captured high school football, baseball and soccer games, graduations and other community events, preserving memories for generations of Hawaiʻi families, athletes and fans.
Through an ongoing collaboration between the Stadium Authority and the Department of Accounting and General Services’ (DAGS) Hawaiʻi State Archives, the collection has been digitized and made available to the community. With more than 1,000 videos now online, the Digital Archives Stadium Stars collection enables the public to revisit these moments from Aloha Stadium’s past, with additional recordings to be added as the digitization effort continues.
“By digitizing these historic games, we’re preserving more than just great moments on the field — we’re making a piece of our shared history accessible to everyone. Future generations will be able to experience, learn from and celebrate the games that brought our communities together,” said Acting Lieutenant Governor Keith Regan, also the DAGS director and state comptroller.
Hawaiʻi State Archivist Adam Jansen, who has a doctorate in archival studies, added, “We wanted to preserve cultural memory, ensure long-term access and transform fragile, at-risk materials into usable historic resources. This initiative squarely fits into our core mission.”
“We know Aloha Stadium was more than a place where people came to watch a game or attend an event. It was where families gathered, students celebrated milestones and generations of Hawaiʻi athletes made memories,” said Michael Yadao, executive director of the Stadium Authority. “The Stadium Stars collection gives us a chance to preserve those memories and make them accessible to the community, even as the stadium site moves into its next chapter.”
